The ultimate goal of all learning to create independent learners and performers. BDT helps us develop players that can play freely. It helps us remove guidance from the coach, and develops trust amongst teammates and coaches to allow players to play with freedom. We have also found that our players love training with BDT. It engages them in ways that regular blocked practice does not.
It also challenges them as there are no mindless repetitions. Athlete satisfaction is the reason I have changed to a games approach, and BDT. Beyond the evidence based support for both concepts, knowing that my players enjoy training and practice more, increases the value and effectiveness of both concepts.
