As a young coach, installing anything was always the hardest part of making an offense work. Of course, with the advantages of South Carolina's Spring Practice rules paired with summer most of the time you could get almost all of your base offense in before the first day of summer practice without any worry. The 3 day install came from an article about Dana Holgerson's offense and how he tries to install in 3 days so he can spend the rest of the time of his Spring Practice and Fall Camp repeating the process untill he felt his players had a firm grasp on the offense. This was done so that he could focus on tags and adjustments during the regular season instead of worrying about the players grasp of the base offense. Today, this concept takes on a whole new meaning. With the Covid-19 outbreak, middle and high schools across the country are facing the prospect of having either a shortened period of Summer workouts or none at all. When we are allowed back we will not know what our Preseason will look like. This Philosophy of install may help coaches get their base offense in before the season starts allowing for coaching to focus on adjustments once the regular season starts and not worry about getting your base in. Showing how this is done and the practice drills used to supplement the learning will get you rolling faster and more consistently. This plan starts with an outline that can be molded to match the type of offense you run but will include the plays and steps we use in our offense. The outline will be followed by the practice plans and drills used to help make the installation as simple as possible.
