    STAFF CATEGORIZATION

    • Module 1.2: Categorizing Assistant Coaches by Behavior

The purpose of Module 1.2 is to equip you with a practical, psychology-informed framework for quickly assessing and categorizing your assistant coaches based on their observable behaviors and underlying psychological patterns (drawing from Industrial-Organizational Psychology concepts like personality traits, motivation styles, stress responses, and interpersonal dynamics).

      Key elements you'll cover:

      • Behavioral categorization: You'll learn to sort coaches into clear types (e.g., high-ego performers, conflict-avoiders, loyal but rigid veterans, high-potential but immature ones, or resistant underminers) without relying on guesswork or personality labels.
      • Psychological grounding: The system uses evidence-based concepts such as locus of control, attachment styles in teams, or Big Five traits adapted to coaching contexts to explain why certain behaviors show up under pressure.
      • How to deal with them: Practical strategies for each category, including how to build alignment, delegate effectively, address resistance, prevent sabotage, and turn potential liabilities into assets, all while protecting your authority and the program's standards.

This module comes early because staff misalignment kills programs faster than almost anything else in the first 90–180 days. By diagnosing behaviors systematically (rather than emotionally), you avoid reactive decisions and install predictable accountability from the start. It's all about intervening wisely instead of hoping people "just get it." Short videos + printable assessment tools make it actionable right away.

Taking Over a Program A Research-Based Survival Guide for Head Coaches This is not a playbook. It’s the leadership system most coaches never get.
