Second to a face-to-face meeting, the most powerful networking/relationship building tool you can use, all for 47 cents!

Purpose:Because people have short attention spans they don’t want to read long letters or handwritten notes. Example: I read in an article you have a book list and I wondered what is the best book you’ve read in the past year and why.

Brief:A short note can be scanned in seconds and often will leave the reader with time and desire to respond in some way.

Ask:Not always, but frequently ask for something. Example: What one word would you attribute to building such a deep and powerful network.
They don’t feel burdened by having to return a lengthy response. They can call, text, or write a short note. The note has been a huge success when you receive something in return.
Your next note could be a “Thank you.”

Add On Value:This is the frosting on the cake. People appreciate you taking time to write a handwritten note, but you make a further impression by adding something of value. It could be a quote, a book or magazine title, a statistic, a breakthrough, something local, or congratulations. It will be appreciated. Put it on cardstock paper and cut the edges so it’s something tangible they can hold and show others.
          Example:

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”― Henry Ford

5 Impressions:A carefully crafted handwritten note can include five “impressions” of your name, contact information, title, where you work or live, email address, or website. It’s up to you.

1.  Your return address
2.  Your business card
3.  You signature on the note
4.  Add on—printed along the bottom
5.   Quick comment and sign add-on

You can see how over time a period of time you can slowly keep in front of someone. It may be a month, 6 months, a year, or 5 years down the road, but your diligence in handwriting will pay off. It may not seem like it at the time, but it adds up if you follow the 5-step method. People will actually LOOK FORWARD to getting your next note!
