GERD KANTER 73.38M, 4TH SEPTEMBER 2006 IN HELSINGBORG, SWEDEN
73.38m analysis on 14 series pictures. This is a print out format for coaches and athletes to use during their throwing sessions.
BACKGROUND:
At the beginning of September 2006 Gerd Kanter was in a very good shape. My estimation was that he could throw over 70m in dead air and probably 71.50m if he would get a little breeze from the right direction.
I called all over the place to get competitors at this date that was early September. All meets were done for the year more or less and as Gerd wanted one more meet we decided to try to get a field of 8/10 people from different countries to come to Helsingborg, Sweden to compete.
It is a long time since I was so excited analyzing something. These simple analysis are thought to be to everyone out there that can read from youth to veteran athletes. I felt like an excited kid when I was writing this, all the flashbacking and good memories. I will never forget this day, it was a small throwing meet in my hometown at this time. It happened to be great conditions, nobody really wanted to come and throw and very few people saw this amazing throw. Leif Magnusson one of my best friends from Helsingborg that was one of the judges said it was the biggest moment in his discus life.
“I never thought I would see a discus fly that far” he said. I have seen many big throws in practice and in meets all around the world in small meets and big meets. I rank this one in the top three. Gerd Kanter never threw farther before or after this day, not in a meet or in practice. It is the farthest throw he ever threw.
