Versatile is 'able to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities'. The POWER RAID offense is the epitome of versatility. Pick your poison - stacked box? Own the flats. Defense starts to respect your passing game? Run 'til the wheels fall off.
Easy to teach. The following lessons will provide a simple approach, building your powerhouse block by block. Everything you can need or want will be enclosed from here on out.
Reactive. In this non-traditional offense, we will not be directed by the defense. Instead, our sole focus is to put our offense into a position to make the defense react, or choose how they will defend us. They will always choose wrong.
Simple. My purpose here is to make installing this offense as simple as possible for anyone looking to coach at the youth level. The age groups above where I currently coach and even the middle school program have adapted some of my playbook, it's that simple.
Action-packed. Every play has the capability to go for six. The plays all look the same. Defenses can guess, but it doesn't help. And we will delve farther into this as we go throughout our lessons.
Team-oriented. The number 1 reason I am so passionate about this offense is its team-driven focus. This is not an offense that needs to be ran through only one person, rather it's designed to have multiple different kids touch the ball throughout the game.
Inclusive - Similar to team-oriented, the Power Raid offense is not meant to be a 'one man show'. As a matter of fact, I was so frustrated for a number of seasons watching the same 'show' that it led me to get creative - and here we are.
Learnable - Step by step. Block by block. Enough with other coaches saying "We don't have the kids to do that" or "Our kids don't know how to do it". You're right, the kids were never taught! If kids can run, they can block. If they are taught, they will learn.
Exciting - Out with the old, In with the new! Win games, be competitive, and have fun doing it!
