Lesson 1:
Stationary Ball handling Without the Dribble
To me one of the most important things to give my players is confidence.
I know of no better way to give them confidence than to help them become comfortable with the basketball.
Why is this important? Because every player eventually has to have the ball in his or her hands.
They will have to do something with the ball. Either pass it, dribble it or shoot it.
But they first must be comfortable with the ball in their hands.
Doesn't matter the age, this is a great way to start any workout or practice.
Here are your key teaching points:
1. Keep knees bent. Don't bend over at the back or waist. Allow them to feel what is means to be in basketball ready position.
2. Keep head up once they get comfortable enough with the ball that they don't have to look at the ball.
3. Go at game speed. Must move the ball quickly to become better and allow them to make mistakes.
