Power is Downhill
Differences between traditional Power and Power Read:
The A-Gap Power hits straight down hill for the running back. He is looking from A to B to C on his read and fitting a relatively tight hole even when it is blocked correctly. In order to run the play from the Pistol set, the quarterback gives him the midline and allows him the vision and path he needs in order to make his read and stay on the move. The path and footwork should be smooth. The running back should never have to check his feet or “squat in the hole” if he makes the correct progression in his read. This requires that he develops the vision he needs to recognize the patterns in the defensive fits.
