Lesson 4: Hops (Horizontal Plyometrics)
Hops
This drill develops the following:
✅ Correct body position for the hop phase
✅ Foot contact, heel up and back towards the hip, extend out, and paw through
✅ Coordination of movement
Arm blocking
Active foot
Knee drive
✅ Developing the pivot movement throughout the hop phase
Technical focus: Pivot movement and leg cycle
Proper hop mechanics Produce and apply vertical forces quicklyEffective and efficient movement
Cues:
Feet:
Toe up; full foot pawing the ground
Heel: Back and up towards the hips
Up and forward
Straight leg pull through
Leg:
Straight at the end of the hop
Arms:
Switch at the beginning and end of the hop (single to single, or single to double arm blocking)
