Foundational Hitting Techniques

Foundational Hitting Techniques

Description

This comprehensive course is built by coaches, for coaches—designed to give you a complete roadmap for developing efficient, repeatable, and high-performing swings that hold up under game pressure.

From movement pattern development to situational execution, this course provides the tools, progressions, and drill packages needed to transform hitters at every level.

🔹 Module 1: Progressions to Develop an Efficient Swing

We begin with a deep dive into the Three Core Movements that form the foundation of every elite swing:

  • The hips lead the hands

  • The hands stay inside the ball

  • The swing matches the plane of the pitch

These concepts are reinforced through drill progressions in three stages:

  • Torque Drills (sequencing, body awareness, bat lag)

  • No Stride Drills (compact control, rhythm, balance)

  • Game Swing Progressions (timing, stride patterns, full-speed execution)

Each drill is shown with coaching cues, purpose, and sequencing logic—so you’re not just collecting drills, you’re building a system.

🔹 Module 2: Situational Hitting

Once swing mechanics are sound, it’s time to teach hitters how to compete. This module addresses key game situations and how to approach them with intent:

  • Driving runners in from second with no outs

  • Two-strike adjustments

  • Executing a sac fly with the infield in

  • Bunting situations (sacrifice, base hits, squeeze plays)

Video breakdowns, MLB examples, and terminology like “On, Over, or In” give you language and drills to elevate your hitters’ baseball IQ and performance under pressure.

🔹 Module 3: Common Mechanical Faults and Corrective Drills

This is your coaching toolkit for diagnosing and correcting swing flaws:

  • Bat drag

  • Poor backside rotation

  • Casting

  • Poor extension

  • Loose or inefficient hands

Each fault includes a clear breakdown, cause analysis, and multiple corrective drills using resistance bands, weighted bats, tee work, and live reps. Whether you’re working with a developing hitter or cleaning up a swing mid-season, this module gives you targeted solutions that work.

🔹 Module 4: Developing a Long-Term Hitting Plan

This PowerPoint-based module gives you the big-picture coaching lens—how to organize a long-term hitting development plan. We cover:

  • Year-round progressions

  • Balancing mechanics, approach, and competition

  • Building systems that scale across age groups and skill levels

If you're running a program, academy, or team, this module is essential for maintaining consistency and growth over time.

🔹 Module 5: Big League Swing Breakdowns & Mental Game Concepts

We wrap the course with breakdowns of elite hitters like Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and others—showing how the principles taught in the course play out in real game swings. Plus, we explore topics like:

  • Plate coverage strategies

  • Pre-swing timing thoughts

  • Using deep breathing to manage tension at the plate

What You’ll Walk Away With:

  • A progressive hitting system that builds from movement to mindset

  • Drill packages that are coachable, scalable, and game-relevant

  • Fault identification tools and corrective strategies

  • Situational hitting instruction that players can understand and apply

  • A long-term roadmap for sustainable player development

Whether you coach at the youth, high school, or collegiate level, this course gives you the structure and depth to confidently develop hitters who don’t just swing well—they compete.
