Build an Unbreakable Basketball Foundation
by Julia AllenderDescription
So often we see players of all ages not able to learn new skills, unable to improve in skills they already have, get passed up by their peers, and lose interest or even worse feel defeated.
What is the cause of all of those things and more importantly what is the solution?
Combined we have spent decades coaching at every level of basketball; youth, high school, junior college, and even professionally in Europe. We found a few common denominators, that if not properly coached and gotten in, prevented players at every one of these levels from improving and having success. It did not matter what else the coach taught, or how much “training” the player got, if these were not fully handled their improvement was very limited.
These are the reasons why a player will not improve in any area or sport:
1) The player thinks they know it all already.
2) They have been given the wrong information from a coach, trainer, or parent.
3) They do not know the nomenclature (terms used) of that sport.
4) They are missing or lacking the fundamentals and basics.
5) They were not given the opportunity to move through the different gradients in learning a new skill, or strategy.
6) They do not have the purpose to improve.
In this book, we lay out the basics and fundamentals that every player at every level must have so they can have personal success, continue to improve, and be able to contribute to their team. We also lay out the perfect gradient on how to teach and implement each skill.

The Coach
Bob Roehl began coaching in 1972, at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory High School in 1972. He then continued his coaching career with the Menlo School boys' basketball team and took them to the CIF State Division V championship in 1989 after getting the Knights to the NorCal finals a year earlier. He won CCS titles both those seasons at Menlo and also coached St. Francis to a 32-2 record and CCS crown in 1979. He spent many years on the girls' side with stints at Menlo School, Presentation High School, and Sacramento City College.
Bob also spent time in Denmark as he coached basketball at the top level two different times for more than three years.
Julia Allender started her coaching career in 2006 as an assistant coach at Ohlone College. She spent 3 years as an assistant coach and in 2009 became the head coach at Ohlone College. From Ohlone College she spent 5 years at Sacramento City College where she turned around yet another program and had tremendous success getting players scholarships at the four-year level. Individual and team development has been her specialty throughout her career, getting players to get the most out of themselves every day and every year.
