In his career, David Blatt has coached with great success at the NBA, Euroleague and international levels. Following his playing career, Blatt began coaching in Israel, and was named Israeli Coach of the Year in 1996. in 1999, Blatt joined Maccabi Tel Aviv, serving as an assistant manager. He would remain with the team for four years, also serving as an assistant, and head coach at different times during his stay. In this time, the team would go on to win the Israeli Cup three times, appear in the Euroleague Final Four twice, and be named Euroleague Champions in 2004.

In 2007, Blatt led the Russian National Team to a Eurobasket gold medal, defeating the reigning FIBA World Champions, Spain, on their home court. In 2012, his team earned bronze at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London.

In 2010, Blatt rejoined Maccabi Tel Aviv and would eventually lead them to another Euroleague championship 2014, marked by an emphatic comeback, and upset, over CSKA Moscow in the semi-final. In six seasons as head coach, Blatt would finish with a record of 263-73 in Israeli League and Euroleague play.

In his first season as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014-15, Blatt led the team to it's first NBA Finals appearance since 2007.
