Lessons

The Coach

Coach Casey is the head men’s basketball coach at Upper Iowa University, where he brings a clear, modern blueprint for transition offense built on pace, spacing, and shot selection. Before Upper Iowa, Sauer spent seven seasons at the University of South Dakota, serving as Director of Basketball Operations, then coaching on the defensive side, and the last four seasons overseeing the offense. His units emphasized speed over read, early kick ahead (EKA), five-out spacing, and paint-touch priorities. Under his offensive direction at USD, the program ranked top-5 nationally in tempo and top-10 in scoring. Casey's practice approach blends simple rules, competitive games, and detailed analytics to create fast, unselfish, and efficient teams.
