The Coach

Anthony Holman is both a highly respected basketball coach and an accomplished sports administrator. He currently serves as Head Basketball Coach at Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, Texas—his alma mater—where he has led the team to unprecedented success, including a school-record 35–3 season and their first-ever appearance in the Class 5A Division I state championship.Concurrently, he holds a significant leadership role at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), where he has spent over a decade shaping championships operations and officiating standards on a national scale

  • Birdville High School (Head Coach)

    • Lifelong Birdville alum who became an all-district and all-region player in 2002 

    • As head coach, crafted a winning culture of "brotherhood" and securing the school’s first-ever state championship berth (35-3 record)

    • Promoted in May 2024 to Vice President of Championships, overseeing 84 NCAA championships and responsible for strategic direction, playing rules, and officiating across all events 

    • Previously served as Managing Director of Championships and Alliances, supervising operations for key events—such as the College World Series, men’s lacrosse, wrestling—and overseeing annual budgets, broadcast negotiations, and site contracts

  • Extensive Administrative Experience

    • Over 15 years with NCAA in championship and alliances operations

    • Former executive director of the Quad Cities Sports Commission, and held roles at the Illinois High School Association (9 years) 

    • Past experience in professional sports, including an executive role associated with the NBA t.

  • Olympic Movement & Governance

    • Serves on boards for USA Swimming and USA Wrestling, reflecting his commitment to broad-based sports governance

  • Academic Foundations

    • Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Economics from Augustana College (played basketball there in the mid-1990s)

    • Holds advanced degrees: Master’s in Sport Management, Master of Sports Law (MSL), and MBA
