The Coach
Kyle Brown is the assistant men’s basketball coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, a position he has held since the start of the 2016-17 academic school year.
Prior to his arrival at Saint Mary’s, Brown spent the last three years as the lead assistant at Cornell College, where he served as the recruiting coordinator among his other coaching responsibilities.
Brown has also spent time as assistant coach and lead recruiter at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., where he helped guide the Green Knights to a 96-31 record and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances during his five seasons. Also during his time at St. Norbert, the Green Knights Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2010, 2011, and 2013.
Brown’s first recruiting class at St. Norbert graduated as the winningest four-year class in school history. The Green Knights went 18-6 in Brown’s initial season, including a win against UW-Platteville when the Pioneers were ranked No. 1 in the country. That was followed by a 23-4 campaign in which SNC advanced to the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. In 2010-11, St. Norbert climbed as high as No. 6 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll and finished 20-6. After a 16-9 season in 2011-12, St. Norbert returned to the national tournament in Brown’s last season, finishing with another 20-6 overall record.
Brown was part of a record-setting turnaround in four years as a student assistant at UW-Parkside. The team notched its first winning season in 2006. The next year, the Rangers earned their first NCAA Division II Tournament berth and finished with a school-best 19 wins. UW-Parkside posted a third straight winning season in 2007-08.
While a student at UW-Parkside, Brown founded Next Level Basketball AAU. The program won two state championships and four other tournaments, and featured numerous players who went on to play collegiate basketball—including three Division I players.
Brown, who started coaching at age 16, earned a bachelor’s degree in History from UW-Parkside in 2009 and completed his master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia Irvine (Calif.) University in 2011.
