Faces In New Places 2016 Playbook

At the end of every season, the news that dominates everyone’s attention is the coaching carousel. Who is getting fired? Who is getting hired? What coaches are leaving one job for another? What will the trickle-down effect be? 

For some coaches, they are looking to move up the ladder. For some, they are looking to get their first head-coaching job. Today, there is a lack of job security in coaching. So in some cases, a veteran coach will go for a change of scenery in hopes of more money, more security, or a return to a place they call home or their dream job. Whatever the situation, with the coaching change, comes culture, philosophy, and tactical change. 

In the “Faces in New Places 2016” playbook, we examine 9 coaches who moved from one head-coaching job to another. The playbook features 226 plays from both veteran and rising coaches:  Avery Johnson (Alabama), Ben Howland (Mississippi State), Bobby Hurley (Arizona State), Chris Mullin (St. John’s), Mike White (Florida), Rick Barnes (Tennessee), Shaka Smart (Texas), Steve Prohm (Iowa State), and Will Wade (VCU).
