Offensive Systems: Roles & Execution with Coach Todd Monsey

Description

This on-court video lecture series with Coach Todd Monsey dives deep into how to teach, implement, and refine a high school basketball offensive system through the lens of player roles and interactions. The course emphasizes not only the Xs and Os, but also the mindset and culture behind effective offense.

You will learn:

  • The responsibilities and interplay of the five core roles: post, guard, shooter, driver, screener

  • How each role must read and respond to defensive actions and teammate movement

  • Progressions in offensive teaching across multiple years (1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year)

  • How to layer actions (screens, spacing, reads) to make the offense resilient

  • Highland Park’s “4 Es” philosophyEnergy, Effort, Execution, Empowerment — and how it drives practice and game culture

  • Methods to empower players to make reads and decisions (not just rote sets)

  • How to build chemistry through shared roles, player interdependence, and accountability

  • Practical drills, demonstrations, and on-court coaching cues that bridge theory to game speed

By the end of the course, you should be able to design an offense with clear role definitions, train players to think rather than just follow, and instill a culture of high execution and accountability among your team.
