Charlie Henry is in his second season as an assistant coach at The University of Alabama, bringing over 10 years of coaching experience across the NBA, G League, and Division I programs. He has worked with the Chicago Bulls, Windy City Bulls, and Iowa State, among others. Henry’s coaching journey began under head coach Nate Oats at Romulus High School in Michigan in 2009-10, where the team finished 21-2 and was ranked No. 22 nationally by USA Today.
Henry’s contributions to Alabama’s success were immediate, as the Crimson Tide led the SEC in six offensive categories during the 2019-20 season, including scoring (82.0 ppg) and three-point shooting. Four players earned All-SEC honors, matching a program record. Henry also helped sign Alabama’s ninth-ranked recruiting class in the nation and played a role in the addition of graduate transfer Jordan Bruner from Yale.
Before joining Alabama, Henry was head coach of the Windy City Bulls, where he led the team to a 27-23 record and a playoff spot in 2019. He coached players like Walter Lemon Jr. and Jakarr Sampson, who earned NBA call-ups. Henry’s first year saw Antonio Blakeney earn G League Rookie of the Year honors.
Henry spent two seasons (2015-17) as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls, focusing on player development and game preparation. Prior to his NBA career, he was on Fred Hoiberg’s staff at Iowa State from 2012-15, where the Cyclones made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2014. Henry was part of a staff that posted a 53-17 record and two Big 12 Tournament titles.
A native of Canton, Michigan, Henry began his career as a video intern with the Indiana Pacers in 2011-12 and was a graduate manager at Utah in 2010-11. His experience across multiple levels of basketball has shaped him into a valuable asset to the Alabama program.
