Billy VandeMerkt is the offensive assistant with the New York Jets, having initially joined Robert Saleh's coaching staff in 2021. With seven years of coaching experience at the college level, VandeMerkt is now entering his second year in the NFL.

During the 2022 Senior Bowl, VandeMerkt took on the role of tight end coach for the National Team, overseeing six tight ends and contributing to a 20-10 victory. His coaching led to impressive performances, with tight ends emerging as top receivers and scoring two touchdowns.

In his first season with the Jets in 2021, VandeMerkt worked closely with Ron Middleton and the tight ends, guiding the group to a notable achievement of having five players record explosive receptions, the most by any team that season and a milestone for the Jets since 2007.

Before his time with the Jets, VandeMerkt coached quarterbacks at Lenoir-Rhyne in 2020 and spent three seasons at Western Michigan from 2017 to 2019. His coaching journey began at St. Joseph's College, where he was a standout quarterback, earning accolades such as Freshman of the Year and All-Conference honors before graduating with a degree in history.
