Box Option Plays in the Gun Triple Offense
by Joel Penner
Description
This course provides a detailed breakdown of box option concepts within the gun triple offense, focusing on how to attack the interior structure of the defense with precision and physicality. Coach Joel Penner walks through the foundational principles of the box option, explaining how double option and midline pitch variations create conflict for second- and third-level defenders.
Throughout the lessons, you’ll explore the mechanics of the double option, including progression teaching, read structure, and blocking responsibilities. The course dives into midline pitch concepts, tackle-pin techniques, and linebacker manipulation—demonstrating how to create vertical seams and controlled perimeter leverage from the shotgun alignment.
Film analysis reinforces how each concept functions against different defensive fronts and box counts, highlighting timing, footwork, mesh mechanics, and assignment discipline. Emphasis is placed on execution, communication, and physical run-game fundamentals to ensure the offense remains efficient and structurally sound.
By the conclusion, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of how to install and execute box option plays in the gun triple offense with clarity, detail, and cohesive run-game structure.
