Lessons

The Coach

Bradley Dale Peveto, named Texas State’s co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in February 2024, brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the team. A native of southeast Texas, Peveto (pronounced PEA-vit-toe) has an extensive background, including stints as a head coach and assistant coach for national champions at both the FBS and FCS levels. Before joining Texas State, he spent three years as the defensive coordinator at UTEP and has coached at various Texas institutions such as Texas A&M, Houston, Stephen F. Austin, and Trinity Valley Community College. Peveto has been part of teams that reached 11 bowl games, including the 2007 BCS National Championship with LSU, and contributed to four FCS Playoff appearances, including leading Stephen F. Austin to a national championship in 1989.

A four-year letter winner and team captain as a defensive back at SMU, Peveto earned accolades such as the Wild Mustang Special Teams Player of the Year and the Mike Kelsey Award. After graduating from SMU in 1987, he earned a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in 1989. Peveto's coaching lineage includes his late father, Ed, a respected high school football coach inducted into both the Greater Houston Coaches Hall of Honor and the Golden Triangle Coaches Hall of Fame, and two brothers, Jeff and Garey Birt, who also coached high school football in southeast Texas.
