Chad Morris: Explosive Run Game & Play-Action Shots
by Texas High School Coaches Association
Description
Build a run game that sets up explosive opportunities through the air.
In this two-part course from the THSCA Coaching School, Chad Morris breaks down key pieces of his Razorback offense, then shares his approach to establishing team culture and setting expectations for players.
The offensive session connects base running schemes with complementary play-action concepts. Morris covers outside zone and power read toss, along with the play-action passes built off those looks, giving coaches a chance to study the run game and passing game together. He also addresses weekly preparation through staff scouting reports and game-planning checklists.
In this course, you’ll explore:
- Base offensive schemes: The foundation for Morris’s offensive approach.
- Outside zone: The “Omaha” concept and its “Lakers” play-action complement.
- Power read toss: The “Indian P” run concept and “Raptor Indian I” play-action variation.
- Weekly preparation: Scheduling, staff scouting reports, and final checklists.
- Team culture: Morris’s “1 Team Rule,” expectations for players, and the philosophy behind “Football in Its Natural State.”
The second lecture moves beyond scheme to examine the standards that shape a program. Morris discusses what he wants from his players and how he defines team culture, offering another perspective for coaches evaluating their own program’s expectations.
Whether you’re looking to connect your run game with play-action shots or sharpen your approach to program leadership, this course brings offensive concepts, weekly preparation, and team culture into one coaching resource.
