Christopher West is his second season as the defensive line coach for Columbia football. In his first season, his unit registered impressive stats with 146 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and an interception. Sophomore Justin Townsend earned Second Team All-Ivy honors under West’s guidance, finishing with 28 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and six sacks. The Columbia defense excelled overall, ranking fifth in the FCS for rushing defense by allowing just 3.17 yards per rush.

Before joining Columbia, West coached at Delta State University, where his defensive line achieved notable success, including 98 tackles for loss and 27 sacks in 2021. He previously coached at Huntingdon College, leading them to a USA South Conference Championship in 2019 and mentoring all-region defensive lineman DeAnte’ Griffith. West's earlier coaching roles included a position at Riverwood International Charter School and his alma mater, Valdosta State, where he contributed to a top-ranked defense in interceptions and takeaways in NCAA Division II. West holds a Bachelor’s degree in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies from Valdosta State, where he also played football and participated in the school’s communications and radio program.
