Offensive Coordinator, Stephen F. Austin (SFA)
Jared May stepped into the offensive coordinator role at Stephen F. Austin in January 2026, promoted by head coach Colby Carthel after the two had already spent well over 15 years coaching side by side. Before the promotion, May spent two seasons running the passing game and seven seasons coaching quarterbacks, helping develop two players who now rank among the top ten passers in school history, Trae Self and Sam Vidlak.
His work has not gone unnoticed outside the building either. Dave Campbell's Texas Football named him to its 40 Under 40 list in 2024. During his time overseeing the passing attack, SFA topped the Southland Conference in passing efficiency and ranked among the nation's best in scoring and red zone production, all while throwing fewer interceptions than anyone else in the league. He has also run the punt return game, a unit that broke program records in 2025 thanks to All American returner Bugs Mortimer.
May inherits an offense fresh off a landmark year. The 2025 team claimed the program's fifth conference title, its first since 2010, going undefeated in league play for the first time in nearly a century and riding an 11 game win streak all the way to the FCS quarterfinals.
Originally from Hamlin, Texas, May played college ball at Hardin Simmons and got his coaching start there in 2006. His path since has wound through West Texas A&M, an earlier tenure at SFA, and Texas A&M Commerce, where he worked alongside Carthel as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, before settling back at SFA for what has become a long-term home starting in 2018.
