Coaching the Overhang Position in Single High Structures
by Robert HerreDescription
Recently updated: This course shows the responisbilities we assign to our overhang players when the #2 receiver is attached/in the backfield and detached from the core.
The first video applies for when #2 is a tight end, wing, or in the backfrield...This is a video we made to help explain assignments and how our reading the End Man on the Line of Scrimmage drill operates. This video shows what they execute based on the different reads they make. I show this video to my 3 safeties (4-2-5 and 3-3 structures) but can be used for other schemes as well. What do you do when you get a pass read? What about a run to you or away? This video is a great tool for the classroom for players to learn before going out on the field to make your drill time more efficient.
I recently added the other scenario. What do you do when you are an overhang player aligned to a slot receiver that is not attached to the formation's core? The 2nd video details the different routes our overhangs face, as pass players first, as well as their run assignment.
