Pass Protection Progression and Techniques with Kurt Anderson

Description

Time in the pocket equals a higher percentage of pass completions, which ultimately means you increase your chances of scoring. Pass protection is one of the most underlooked aspects of the game. A Majority of people always draw their attention to wide receivers and quarterbacks and the plays they make. However, the plays they make are not possible without an effective offensive line. A quarterback needs time to make a pass, he needs pass protection. It does not come easy, there are progressions and techniques the lineman must understand and master.

In this course, Assistant coach & Offensive line coach Kurt Anderson shares his methods and strategies to developing better pass protection within the lineman. He breaks down drills and examples to illustrate the possible improvement on the offensive line.

The Coach

Kurt Anderson | Northwestern University | Assistant Coach (Offensive Line)

Kurt Anderson was named the program's offensive line coach on Jan. 14, 2019, after serving the 2018 season as a quality control analyst for the Wildcats.

During his time at Northwestern, Anderson has played a role in the development of Jared Thomas who earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2019. Anderson also has had oversight of Rashawn Slater. The three-year starter was a consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2019 and graded out No. 2 overall among Power Five offensive tackles returning (PFF). Heading into his senior campaign, Slater earned preseason All-America recognition from Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

Anderson previously spent two years as the offensive line coach at Arkansas following three seasons with the Buffalo Bills as an assistant offensive line coach. While at Arkansas, he helped mentor 2017 Detroit Lions first-round draft pick and All-SEC offensive lineman Frank Ragnow. The Razorbacks' offensive line helped pave the way for running back Rawleigh Williams III to capture the SEC regular-season rushing title with 1,326 yards and provided time for quarterback Austin Allen to throw for an SEC-best 3,430 yards.
