Lecture Title: Developing a Year-Round Plan for Defensive Improvement
Patrick Toney begins his first season serving as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the Gators Toney served as Defensive Coordinator at the university of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. During his two years as Defensive Coordinator the Cajuns compiled a record of 22-2 finishing 9th in the country in scoring defense in 2021. Toney was nominated as a Frank Broyles Award finalist. Before joining the Ragin Cajuns Toney served as the Safeties Coach at The University of Texas San Antonio. The Road Runners finished 5th in the country in total defense in 2017 as well as 8th in scoring defense and 12th in pass efficiency defense. Toney’s previous coaching stops include Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana. Toney coached two NFL Draft picks at Southeastern Louisiana, including Robert Alford (2013) and Harlan Miller (2016).
A native of Poway, Calif., Toney is a 2012 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana and is married to Courtney Toney.
