Riley Dodge
Tight Ends Coach / Passing Game Coordinator, SMU
Riley Dodge came to SMU in January 2026 to join Rhett Lashlee's staff, arriving after eight seasons running the Southlake Carroll program. His run there was one of the best in recent Texas high school history: 108 wins against just 10 losses, seven district titles, five trips to the regional round, and two state championship game appearances. He picked up Tom Landry Coach of the Year honors in 2019 and 6A Coach of the Year the following season, and along the way became the fastest coach in state history to notch 100 wins.
Dodge grew up around the game as the son of coach Todd Dodge and played quarterback himself at Southlake Carroll before continuing his career at North Texas and then McNeese State, where he picked up Sun Belt all conference recognition. He got his coaching start as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M, then spent time as an offensive quality control coach at Texas before eventually taking over at his alma mater. One of the players he developed at Southlake Carroll, RJ Maryland, is now on SMU's roster and holds the school record for receiving yards by a tight end.
D'Eriq King
Co-Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach, SMU
D'Eriq King is heading into his fourth year on SMU's staff in 2026, now holding the titles of quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator after starting out as an offensive analyst back in 2023. His work with quarterback Kevin Jennings paid off in a big way in 2025, as Jennings posted career numbers across the board in passing yardage and total touchdowns and picked up All-ACC Honorable Mention recognition.
King's own playing career took him from Houston, where he played from 2016 to 2019, to a transfer stint at Miami in 2020 and 2021 under offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, the same coach who now leads SMU. He wore the captain's armband at Miami and was in the mix for several national quarterback awards, including the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien, and Johnny Unitas. After trying his hand at pro football in the NFL and XFL, King reconnected with Lashlee and joined him at SMU. His rapid rise has earned him spots on both 247Sports' 30 Under 30 list and Dave Campbell's Texas Football 40 Under 40 list.
