Rob Noel began his tenure as Defensive Line Coach in 2023, following his role as the defensive coordinator at Stony Brook since 2020. His first season saw notable success from players Matei Fitz, Aidan Murray, and Carsen Stocklinski, who collectively achieved 89 tackles and 17 sacks. Under his guidance, Richmond's run defense excelled, ranking third nationally and first in the CAA with an average of 104.5 rushing yards allowed per game.

Before joining Richmond, Noel significantly impacted Stony Brook's defense, starting as the defensive line coach in 2014 and becoming the defensive run game coordinator in 2019. He coached standout player Victor Ochi to All-America status and All-CAA Football honors, with Ochi becoming the Seawolves' all-time leader in sacks and tackles-for-loss. In 2017, Noel's defense ranked third in the FCS in total defense and led the FCS in 2018 with six defensive touchdowns. His efforts contributed to Stony Brook's consecutive FCS Playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018. Noel, a four-year letter winner for the Butler Bulldogs, graduated with a school-record 44 games played and earned All-Pioneer League and Academic All-Conference selections.
