Run Game: Own the Box

by Tilford Myers
Run Game: Own the Box

Description

Our run game is built to complement the vertical passing attack and create physical, explosive football. Rather than carrying a large menu of runs, we focus on a small number of concepts and strive to execute them at a high level. We combine gap schemes such as Power, Counter, Iso, and Duo with Outside Zone to give defenses multiple looks while keeping the offense simple for our players. Throughout this section, I’ll cover our run-game philosophy, blocking rules, coaching points, and how we adjust to different defensive fronts to consistently create efficient runs and explosive plays.
