Ryan McCarthy, named head coach of Central Connecticut in October 2019, previously served as the team's offensive coordinator for four seasons and spent 13 years on staff at the University at Albany. In his debut season as head coach, McCarthy led the Blue Devils to a record 11-win season, a perfect Northeast Conference campaign, and their second FCS playoff appearance, earning him the NEC co-Coach of the Year and Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Division I Coach of the Year awards. Under his leadership, CCSU's offense became one of the top units in the NEC, highlighted by mentoring all-time leading passer Jacob Dolegala, who later signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. McCarthy also has extensive experience as quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator at Albany, where he served as offensive coordinator under legendary coach Bob Ford.
