You may be one that is more aware of how athletes are having more and more trouble catching the football! This can be utilized as a warm-up for older athletes and/or a complete workout for younger athletes. The 2-lb. medicine ball and catching it is the objective. The 2 focal areas are (1) athletes using their eyes to see the ball into their hands and (2) catching the ball with extended arms, not letting the arms fall to the floor on the catch. We work with a partner, who gets some grip work as well!
With 16 years of coaching experience, the biggest take-away is learning what really works and what really will transfer over to the game.
Despite how saturated the fields have become, keeping it simple is what really works. Positions have become very over-coached, and the negative ripple effect is kids literally thinking too much, causing them to play slower.
