The Four Fundamentals of Ball Flightby Sam Goulden
The Four Fundamentals of Ball Flight
Sam Goulden's Bio
Sam grew up in Washington, Missouri. A small town about 40 miles west of St. Louis.
Through most of his youth, Sam spent more time skateboarding than golfing (even through his college golf career).
As a player, he never considered the possibility of being the best. As a coach, he made is his mission to do just that. He focused mainly on juniors for most of his career.
His love of helping golfers of all ages led him all over the country in search of better methods of teaching and coaching. He worked with many of the worlds best coaches and took what he learned back to small town America. As his students got better and better, Sam felt the desire to prove himself as a player.
In 2006, at the age of 26, Sam shifted his focus toward winning the US Open. Still teaching every day, Sam began a strict regimen of practice, mental training, fitness, and diet and nutrition practices. As he grew as a player, it became evident that he would have to spend the majority of his time on developing his own game.
Sam moved to California in the fall of 2009 to focus on playing full time on the Golden State Tour. Selling his house, car, stocks and everything he could do without, he started his journey with a little cash and a big dream. For two years Sam played mini-tour golf. He won two events and finished in the top ten many times, however, the earnings from such events were no match for the expenses he was encountering. He taught lessons as often as possible but he knew that this cycle was not the path to success.
In 2012, determined to see growth in his game, Sam again sold all possessions and set out on a journey. This time he would travel the country, playing in PGA Tour qualifiers, and documenting his journey on YouTube. He lived out of his car, eating on a budget of $5 a day, sleeping in a tent for weeks, relying on the kindness of friends (and sometimes strangers) for support. Sam didn’t care about not having nice clothes, brand new Titleists, or even sleeping in his car. He had determined years ago that he would do whatever it took to reach his goal.
Through the constant documentation of his journey, Sam’s following on YouTube grew to over 3,000 views per day and over a half million views. He started writing golf instruction books and is now a top 20 golf author on Amazon. He taught clinics and sold training aids and apparel. He started to see that he didn’t have to sleep in a tent to reach his goals. The experiences were well worth it but not necessary for success. In this realization, he determined to help others who had the desire and focus, but not the funds, to reach their goals.
Sam believes that giving is growth. He hopes to spread his love of sharing with the members of #TourQuest team with the goal of someday having a major influence in the lives of millions of people.
