Jenks 3-4 Defense: Creating Offensive Confusion Through (Percieved) Complexity.
Coach Ryan Thompson has experienced tremendous success as the head coach of the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays, including a 30-3 run over the past three seasons with three consecutive trips to the Class C1 quarterfinals.
One of the reasons for his success has been the play of his defense, a Tite-front 3-4 defense that utilizes quarters coverage. His defenses have finished in the top 15 of the state for the past three seasons, culminating in last season's defense, which finished 2nd in the state in yards allowed and points allowed per game while also finishing in the top 5 in the state in takeaways.
In this video, Thompson takes coaches through the pillars of his scheme, starting with the basic foundational pieces of knowledge before progressing to more advanced and specific topics that make his defense adaptable to any offensive scheme.
