One of my favorite Offensive Coordinators in college football is Joe Moorehead and while he may have been at Mississippi State during the 2019 season his offense lived on in Happy Valley under Offensive Coordinator Ricky Rahne. During the 2019 season Penn State would amass an 11-2 Record and a Cotton Bowl victory while averaging 35.8 Points Per Game and finishing in the Top 10 of the AP Poll.
In this course i broke down as much Penn State film as i could get my hands on to see what were the core concepts in their Passing Attack.
Featured in this course are Shallow Cross, 2X2 Mesh, 3X1 Mesh, Y-Cross Variations, WR/RB Option Routes, PA Verticals, and a few others.
This offense has been developed and refined over the last five years and featured within this course is the current idiration of the trials and tribulations that have lead to an offense that has produced a season in which we were able to score over 50 Points Per Game at the Frosh-Soph level.
What is the offense?
This offense has its roots in the classic football of long ago, Single Wing, Double Wing, and Tackle Over unbalanced and super unbalanced sets, while also featuring a change up Spread set that will force the defense to defend 32 Personnel on one play and 00 Personnel on the next. I will tell you this now (as well as in the course) that nothing contained within this course is cutting edge or revolutionary, what is included in this course however is thought process, communication, and simple blocking rules that have allowed us to be successful.
Why you want this offense?
If you are a football coach looking for a change up, or simply looking to start from scratch, this offense is simple and effective at a variety of levels of football from the High School level on down to mighty mite youth ball.
After last season (2019) and some of the failures we had i took it as a challenge to create a playbook that featured elements of some of the most succesful and prolific offenses in College and High School Football. This offense is my attempt to merge the Power Spread offenses of Gus Malzahn/Chad Morris/Rhett Lashlee with the Prolific Passing Attack of the Air Raid Offense seen utilized by Mike Leach/Lincoln Riley/Graham Harrell, as well as some gems from High school coaches such as Kevin Kelley (who has great courses here on CoachTube and i implore you to go look at) while also calling upon some lasting and succesful plays from the previous offense i ran at my old school. The goal of this playbook was to create flexibility to allow us to adapt to whatever our personnel might be at the beginning of the season, as well as things we can fall back on in the case that we get the injury bug once again. Hopefully you find some elements in here that you enjoy and can adapt to your own school and kids.
