Cody Toppert- Learning Design

Description

Turn practice into game-day performance.

G-League head coach and Washington Wizards assistant Cody Toppert unveils a holistic, evidence-based development system grounded in the ecological dynamics / constraints-led approach. Learn how to design high-quality learning environments, apply cognitive load theory and dual coding, build shared language and cueing, and create game-representative drills that transfer under pressure. You’ll leave with plug-and-play frameworks for practice planning, mindset skills, SLOB/BLOB/PNR automatics, 2-for-1 strategy, and defensive coverages, all aligned to how elite programs actually teach, learn, and win.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Build a holistic development model across technical, tactical, mental, physical & personal pillars

  • Design game-representative practices (constraints-led, perception–action coupling)

  • Use cognitive load theory & dual coding (colors/shapes/metaphors) for faster retention

  • Install shared language & cueing for clarity under pressure

  • Plan, interleave, and pressure-test sessions for real game transfer

  • Execute PNR automatics, 2-for-1/66-36/last shot, FT rebounding “X,” matchups, and coverages
