Grant Billmeier - Building a Five-Out Offense Spacing, Cuts & Reads

Description

Build a five-out offense that gives players the spacing, reads, and confidence to create scoring opportunities without waiting for a play call.

In this on-court clinic, learn how to connect cutting, screening, and dribble handoffs into a flexible offensive attack. The session progresses from small-group drills to five-on-zero execution, showing how individual skills fit into a complete system—and how to adapt that system to your personnel.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Drift cuts and 45 cuts: Teach players when to attack open space, how to time their cuts, and when to stop a cut to preserve a teammate’s driving lane.

  • Zoom action: Combine a down screen with a dribble handoff to create opportunities for the ball handler, rolling forward, and perimeter shooter.

  • Counters to defensive coverage: Use back cuts, tight curls, back screens, and slips to respond to pressure and switching.

  • Post entries and grenade action: Flow from a post touch into a screen-away and handoff, with reads for finishes at the rim and corner threes.

  • Footwork and passing: Reinforce jump stops, pivots, shot fakes, and controlled passes to help players attack closeouts and make decisions in the paint.

  • Transition into five-out offense: Use trailer entries, push entries, drag screens, double drag, and double chase to get into action quickly.

Throughout the clinic, the emphasis is on simple terminology, purposeful spacing, and teaching players to recognize what the defense gives them. Coaches will leave with a practical drill progression and connected offensive actions they can adapt to their team’s strengths.
