The Coach

Nick Pasqua | Southern Wesleyan University | Head Coach

Nick Pasqua joined the Southern Wesleyan Warriors as the Head Men's Basketball coach in the summer of 2018 and is entering his third year at the helm of the program.

In his first year at the helm (2018-19), Southern Wesleyan went 2-26.  However, Pasqua guided the team to become the 2019-20 most improved team in NCAA Division II in the 2019-20 season as SWU went 20-11.  During the historic 19-20 season, Southern Wesleyan advanced to the Conference Carolinas postseason (hosting the first round in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium) and eventually went on to win the university's first-ever Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament.  Their title earned them a bid into the NCAA tournament as the #7 seed, becoming the first in school history to receive the honor.

The 2019-20 overall and conference record was the most wins the program had gotten since entering D2.  This was also the highest finish in Conference Carolinas for Southern Wesleyan since moving into the conference.  Under Pasqua's guidance, Clenzo Ross (First Team) and Ta'Jay Dunlap (Second Team) received All-Conference recognition.  After the championship tournament, Ross, Dunlap, and Solomon Smith were all named to the All-Tournament team and Ross was named the Tournament MVP.

Prior to coaching at SWU, Pasqua served as the Head Coach at Tusculum College during the 2016-17 season. During the 16-17 campaign, the Pioneers set a school record for most three-pointers made and attempted in a season while finishing third all-time during a season for most blocked shots.  Pasqua was also able to coach De'Shaunte Smith to the All-Freshman team in the South Atlantic Conference.  The previous nine years before making the move to Tusculum, Pasqua served on the coaching staff at King University as an assistant coach under legendary head coach George Pitts.

Pasqua was a four-year starter on the hardwood at King from 2004-2008 and played his final two seasons for Coach Pitts.  In those two seasons with Pitts, his teams compiled a 49-19 record. Pasqua was a member of two Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament championship teams and the 2007-2008 AAC regular-season championship team. He earned All-AAC first-team accolades, was named to the AAC All-Defensive Team and the AAC All-Academic Team.  He accumulated 1,300 points and 500 assists during his Tornado career.
