Coach Steve Perez from San Antonio Veterans Memorial HS helped open the school in the 2016-17 school year and has been fortunate to work with great assistants Mike Gonzales, Lawrence Bailey, Emerson Allen, Devonn Miller, Matthew Bullock, and Brian Thomas. Coach Perez is a graduate of Judson HS and graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Prior to becoming the head coach at San Antonio Veterans Memorial, Coach Steve Perez began his coaching career at Kirby Middle School in the Judson ISD for two years and has been an assistant for Ed Hooi and Joey Isaac at Brackenridge HS in the San Antonio ISD for six years and assisted at Judson HS under Mike Wacker for three years and has completed his 19^th year of coaching. The Patriots have a 159-80 overall school record. Over the last three years the Patriots have won three district championships, been to three regional finals, and advanced to the state semi-finals twice and had a record of 108-13 over that time. Coach Perez and his staff were voted Greater San Antonio Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024. The San Antonio Veterans Memorial staff has had the honor to coach the San Antonio Area Association Allstar game, the Jordan Clarkson Austin vs San Antonio Allstar game, and the TABC Allstar game. His coaching philosophy is based on having a positive Attitude, showing the Capacity to Care, giving Total Effort, and demonstrating Self-Discipline. Our program motto is “it is your A.C.T.S. that define you at San Antonio Veterans Memorial HS not the scoreboard”. We will continue to help our athletes reach their academic, social, spiritual, and athletic goals through sports.
