The Coach

Conceptual Offense

Sundance Wicks is the head men's basketball coach at the University of Wyoming, appointed in May 2024 as the 23rd head coach in Cowboy basketball history. In his first two seasons leading the program, he has worked to build the Cowboys into a competitive team in the Mountain West, emphasizing a fast-paced, offense-first philosophy centered on what he calls his "Conceptual Offense Framework," built around the idea of "keeping the flow" and playing from "now to next."

Before Wyoming, Wicks served as an assistant coach at the school for three seasons under Jeff Linder, helping the Cowboys reach the 2022 NCAA Tournament. He also spent time as head coach at Green Bay and at Missouri Western, and as associate head coach at Northern State. As a player, Wicks lettered four years at Northern State University, earning two-time first-team All-NSIC honors, before playing professionally overseas. He holds a bachelor's degree in international business and a master's degree in health, physical education, and coaching, both from Northern State, and is a native of Gillette, Wyoming. He is married to Courteney, with two children,

Wicks describes his coaching identity as a "chaotic guy by nature" who is comfortable letting players work through disorganized possessions in practice, and credits his staff, including assistant coach Chris Thomas, for shaping his program's emphasis on spacing, ball-screen attack principles, and building offensive freedom that players have to earn through accountability in shot selection and turnovers.
