USING CUTTING TO GAIN AN OFFENSIVE ADVANTAGE

Description

Cutting for an Advantage

What is cutting in basketball?

Basketball cuts are essentially sudden movements and changes of direction on the court in order to get through a defensive player in order to get open. Cutting is especially useful when you are playing one on one against your opponent.

Why are cuts important?

The technique of cutting causes havoc for defenses in a number of ways. It allows an offense to open up a player. It also creates proper spacing, allowing the offense to operate with sufficient space. Cutting makes opponents pay attention to every player on the court. Most perimeter movements can be turned into attempts to create a scoring advantage, thus enabling offensive players to at the very least increase their chances of getting fouled by cutting to the basket.

If a team can properly cut and misdirect the opposing team, they’ll find themselves being able to control the tempo of the game and create more opportunities. Learn how to cut! Introducing Boston Celtics Assistant Coach Scott Morrison’s..

Can't believe this course isn't more popular. Its a must have for high school coaches that run a lot of ballscreen concepts with drills to easily incorporate it. I'll be rewatching this several times!
