Xavier Silas - Mood -Congruent Arousal Manipulation

Description

If you coach basketball offense and want your players to make the right read under real game pressure, this course delivers a system most coaches have never heard of. Xavier Silas, the offensive mind behind VMI’s historic turnaround, is now in his fourth season building one of the most explosive offenses in college basketball. His coaching resume spans the NBA, the G League (three consecutive top-five scoring offenses), and the University of Missouri, giving him a rare, multi-level view of how elite offenses are actually built and taught.

In this session, Silas reveals a practice technique most coaching clinics never cover, using horror-movie music, volume, and unpredictability to deliberately manipulate players’ nervous systems in practice. The result is a team that walks into a hostile road environment, a tied game, or a loud fourth quarter and has already rehearsed that exact physiological state.

Coaches searching for basketball offense training, practice planning ideas, or conceptual offense coaching strategies will walk away with a system they can start using in their next practice.

Enroll now to start building pressure-tested, decision-making players in your program.

The Coach

Xavier Silas is in his fourth season at VMI, where he currently serves as associate head coach and offensive coordinator under head coach Andrew Wilson. He joined the staff in January 2024 as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator, and has been instrumental in a historic turnaround for the program.

Before VMI, Silas built an extensive coaching resume across the G League, the NBA, and internationally. He spent two years (2019-2021) as director of player development and offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, helping the team reach its first playoff appearance and win in franchise history while working with players including Tyrese Maxey and Paul Reed. He then held the same dual role with the Detroit Pistons’ G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, where he helped develop Cade Cunningham and Jerami Grant and built an offense that ranked top-10 in 15 statistical categories. In between, he had a brief head coaching stint with the Guaynabo Mets in Puerto Rico’s BSN league during the 2022-23 season, and he also worked as an analyst at the University of Missouri, assisting with offensive and defensive strategy, film preparation, and player development while pursuing a master’s degree there.

Silas’s path to coaching came after a lengthy professional playing career. He played college basketball at Colorado before transferring to Northern Illinois, where he led the MAC in scoring at 22.3 points per game as a senior and earned First Team All-MAC honors. He went on to play professionally for nearly a decade, appearing in NBA stints with the Nuggets, Celtics, Timberwolves, Wizards, and 76ers, extensive G League time, and professional seasons in Argentina, Germany, Greece, Israel, and France, in addition to starting for USA Basketball during 2018-19 World Cup qualifying.
