Caroline Nelson-Nichols is the Director of Masters High Performance for USA Field Hockey, appointed in July 2023. A two-time Olympian, veteran coach, and former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, she brings elite experience from both the collegiate and international levels.

As a player, Nelson-Nichols earned 165 caps with the U.S. National Team, competing in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games. She also helped Team USA capture gold medals at the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2014 Champions Challenge, while contributing to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 World Cup.

Following her playing career, she transitioned into coaching, serving as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, and later as head coach at Columbia University for five seasons after three years as an assistant. She also spent time on staff at the University of Iowa and joined Saint Joseph’s University in 2021.

A graduate of Old Dominion University, Nelson-Nichols was a standout defender, earning NFHCA First Team All-America honors, as well as CAA Player and Defender of the Year under legendary coach Beth Anders.

Today, in her role with USA Field Hockey, Nelson-Nichols leads the Masters High Performance program, guiding athlete development and strengthening U.S. competitiveness on the international stage.
