Description

This seminar is designed for head coaches that want to brand their program and hone their administrative skills, as well as, younger coaches that seek the skills and mentoring it takes to become a head coach in the future. One of our most important responsibilities as coaches is to help our young athletes to confront and comprehend the negative culture that challenges them in this day and time. As head coaches we are responsible for providing our coaching staff with the moral guidance, proper encouragement and leadership to get that task accomplished.

Applicants for Head Coaching positions need to adapt to the new methods that many districts currently use to select the best Head Coach. The responsibilities of the position encompass more than ever before and assistant coaches who aspire to be promoted to Head Coach need to prepare themselves daily for the chance to fulfill their dream.

"A Structure for Success: Designing your Program the Longhorn Way" – What do you hang your hat on as a program? In any great program there has to be a solid foundation upon which everything is built. Coach McGuire will lay out a detailed plan on how Cedar Hill has designed their program from the ground up!

John King, Longview High School
"The Well-Rounded Athlete" – Coach King will address the importance of a student-athlete's participation in multiple sports and extra-curricular activities. An athlete's presence on campus should radiate through community involvement and peer leadership as well as physical training. A true competitor will cultivate his talents in as many arenas as possible!

"What's the Plan?" – Every program must have a plan, a process, a philosophy of what it wants to be. X's and O's are an important piece of all winning teams, but the bedrock of any successful organization is the day-to-day operations and how they are carried out. The head coach is the one most responsible for setting the tone. How he performs in this area may be the single most important factor for affecting the end result!

Andy Evans, Tatum High School
"1 in 100" – Inspired by his experiences at the THSCEF Texas Coaches Leadership Summit, Coach Evans chose to make a difference in his community and the culture of his athletes. By initiating the "1 in 100" program, the student-athletes of Tatum high school were given an opportunity to witness the positive role models in their community on a personal level. Find out how, Coach Evans took on the challenge of a "Fatherless Generation" in hopes of building better leaders for our future.

"The Art of Coaching Character" – Coaches have more impact in one day that some people have in a lifetime. Coach Allen will remind us why it's imperative in today's society that coaches remember to use their power of influence to positively impact our student-athletes. The most important legacy we can leave to this generation is to provide the best example of good character for the young athletes so that they become men and women of character.
