Adam Cushing - Creating a Consistent Offensive Linemanby Lauren's First and Goal
Duke Run Game Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Adam Cushing shares his thoughts on what it takes to create consistent offensive linemen in this course. He begins by explaining that the hall mark of excellence is consistency. From there he gives the details of the pan he uses to prepare his players mentally and physically.
He shares his "homework" template given to his linemen weekly and explains their role in creating the game plan. The homework is a collaborative effort that gets all of the players in his position group being accountable for their learning to each other.
He also shares the players role in preparing the scouting report on opponent personnel.
Following the details on mental preparation, Coach Cushing shares the individual drills which he utilizes to create consistent physical performance in the run game and pass game.

After a playing career at the University of Chicago, Coach Cushing got his start in coaching as an assistant coach at the University of La Verne.
After two years at LaVerne, Coach Cushing spent 15 seasons in a variety of roles at Northwestern University, including 10 as the offensive line coach. He also coached the superbacks , tight ends and H-backs and started thee as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line. He Cushing had recruiting coordinator responsibilities as well, twice earning national recognition as one of the Big Ten’s top recruiters.
In 2021, Coach Cushing was named the run game coordinator at Duke and also coaches the offensive line. Prior to The Blue Devils he spent three-years as the head coach at Eastern Illinois University.
