The Coach
AJ Jones joined Oregon State University as the running backs coach in February 2021 and made an immediate impact. Under his guidance, B.J. Baylor became the first OSU running back since Steven Jackson in 2003 to lead the conference in rushing, amassing 1,337 yards and earning All-Pac-12 First Team and honorable mention All-American honors. The OSU offense achieved notable milestones, setting a full-season school record with 5.3 yards per rush and an OSU-record 6.4 yards per play in 2021. Head coach Jonathan Smith praised Jones for his experience and track record in developing running backs, citing his previous coaching stints at Rice, BYU, and Arizona, where he coached players like Gary Brightwell and Ty'son Williams, both of whom found success at the professional level.
