Alex Gibbs (February 22, 1941 – July 12, 2021) was an NFL offensive line coach and former assistant head coach. Coach Gibbs was known a a guru of zone blocking and used it while he was Offensive line coach of the Denver Broncos. The Broncos became famous for their use of undersized and more agile offensive linemen. Coach Gibbs continued to teach the wide zone play and the boot off of it which is seen in the Mike Shanahan coaching tree in the NFL today. The Alex Gibbs methodology can be seen across all levels of football today.
