Blair Cavanaugh joined the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) as the Special Teams Analyst in the spring of 2022. Before UIW, he significantly impacted Syracuse University from 2019 to 2021, where he helped the team achieve top rankings in special teams in the ACC and nationally. He coached two All-American specialists, three all-conference specialists, a Lou Groza Award winner, and two all-conference returners during his tenure. Notably, two of his punters, Sterling Hofrichter and Nolan Cooney, made it to the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.

Before Syracuse, Cavanaugh served as a graduate assistant at Ball State University from 2017 to 2018, where he coached wide receivers, including All-MAC selections Riley Miller and Justin Hall. He also had a brief stint at Nebraska as an offensive staff volunteer. As a player, Cavanaugh was a wide receiver at Oregon State and Portland State, contributing to Oregon State's 2012 Alamo Bowl and 2013 Hawaii Bowl teams and helping Portland State reach the 2015 FCS playoffs. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social science from Portland State in 2016 and a master’s degree from Ball State University in 2018. His father is the current Offensive Line Coach for Arizona State University.
