Colin Ferrell, currently the defensive line coach at Kent State, has been an integral part of the Golden Flashes' coaching staff since 2012. Promoted to a full-time assistant in 2016, Ferrell has played a key role in the team's defensive success. Under his guidance, the defensive line contributed significantly to the Flashes' impressive turnover statistics, ranking third in the nation for turnover ratio in 2021. His coaching prowess helped the team achieve its first bowl win in program history in 2019, with Theo Majette earning third-team all-MAC honors. Ferrell has also been recognized as one of the top recruiters in the Mid-American Conference, playing a pivotal role in securing highly-ranked recruiting classes in 2018 and 2019.

Before becoming a full-time assistant, Ferrell spent three seasons as a defensive graduate assistant at Kent State. His defensive units consistently ranked high in total and pass defense within the conference, with several players earning All-MAC honors. Before his coaching career at Kent State, Ferrell coached high school football for four seasons, including three at The Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey. As a player, Ferrell was a standout defensive lineman for the Golden Flashes from 2004-07, earning All-Mid-American Conference First Team honors and serving as team captain. He later signed as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts and played during the 2008 preseason.
