Phil Longo, the newly appointed head football coach at Sam Houston State University, brings 34 years of coaching experience and a track record of success at every level. Known for his innovative offensive schemes and exceptional leadership, Longo previously served as Sam Houston's offensive coordinator from 2014-16, where he helped the Bearkats achieve a 34-10 record, win two Southland Conference titles, and make three deep FCS playoff runs, including back-to-back semifinal appearances.

Longo’s offensive units at Sam Houston set records and garnered national attention, including directing quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe to a record-breaking season in 2016 that earned him the Walter Payton Award. His offenses consistently ranked among the nation’s best in both passing and rushing, showcasing balance and adaptability.

After his first stint at Sam Houston, Longo elevated programs at Ole Miss, North Carolina, and Wisconsin as an offensive coordinator. At Ole Miss, his Air Raid principles produced top-20 offenses, including units that led the nation in first downs and ranked among the SEC’s all-time best in passing. At North Carolina, he mentored two standout quarterbacks, Sam Howell and Drake Maye, while leading the ACC in passing and scoring.

Most recently, Longo brought record-setting success to Wisconsin, blending Air Raid concepts with a balanced attack. With six conference championships and multiple postseason appearances throughout his career, Longo has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt and innovate, making him a premier leader in modern football.
